So, although the bat may have been comprised of 4-parts of wood instead of one piece of wood, in effect the bat made no appreciable difference in Ruths offensive production! In Bill Jenkins book about Babe Ruth titled, “104 home runs “ , he points out that Ruth, in his youth used bats as heavy as 54 ounces and his favorite “ Black Betsy was 44 ounces!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6055358841733153770.post-9151469707324449022022-06-24T12:46:58.263-04:002022-06-24T12:46:58.263-04:00I have a Ken Williams corked bat. Besides, the most telling yardstick in comparing home run hitters, Ruth had no peer in home runs per times at bat, making him the greatest in history.Eddie Chapmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16732777218142189321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6055358841733153770.post-53811671963231677822013-08-02T22:36:13.673-04:002013-08-02T22:36:13.673-04:00Most interesting. I recall a story from some years ago when a bat used by Ruth was making the rounds of major league club houses (the reason for which I can't recall) when it came to the Mariners clubhouse. One of their players was carefully examining it when he noticed that it was a multi-piece bat. Other players looked and confirmed it. Your story only adds more fuel to the possibility that Ruth used doctored or special bats during his career.
